Are you facing unexpected challenges with your dog that you don’t feel you’re able to mitigate on your own? Have you had a major life change that is preventing you from adequately caring for your dog? Have you tried everything you can to keep your dog with you, but don’t feel it is a viable option anymore? If any of these things sound like you, we’re here to help!
First and foremost, we hope that owners have done everything possible to try to keep their dog in the best place possible – their own home. Once all resources have been exhausted – obedience training, behavioural interventions, food bank supplies, etc. if you still don’t feel like you can adequately care for your pet, we will do our best to help you.
Intake of owner surrender dogs is done as space is available in our program. If space is not available, we would be happy to provide re-homing assistance at no cost to you, provided you keep the dog in your care until a suitable home is found.
If space is available in our program and you feel you are unable to house your dog until a suitable home is found, we will likely require a surrender fee in order to help care for your dog until they find their forever home. Fees (if applicable) vary depending on the length of time we anticipate having your dog in our care. If potential surrender fees are preventing you from surrendering your pet, please contact us to discuss potential arrangements.
To give you an idea of the cost associated with supporting your pet while at CARES, we have provided a list of potential treatments that could be required prior to their adoption into a new home.
